The sorrel grows primarily on nutrient-and nitrogen-rich meadows. It serves as an indicator plant for heavily fertilized with manure locations. The young leaves can be eaten, they are rich in vitamin C. The sour taste comes from the oxalic acid, which is harmful in high doses.
